Welcome to a discussion of art and life.
Art, Jazz and DetroitDetroit is attracting creatives with its affordable housing and its spirit. Detroit's strength has always been that hard work could bring rewards. There was plenty of hard work to be done. The work paid too well in some employer's minds and they sought cheaper sources for workers. There were still jobs working for the city and in the suburbs, if you could find transportation. We were good at work but not good at creating work. We didn't replace the factory jobs. Detroit lacked the entrepreneurial structure to create a new tax base to finance services.
This is a tough environment but one that stimulates artistic expression.
